Hearing Loss
About 95% of hearing loss cases are issues of sensorineural hearing loss, commonly referred to as “nerve damage.” This type of hearing loss is usually gradual, and rarely able to be helped with medical treatment. Among the most common symptoms are a loss of clarity in understanding speech. Hearing aids are almost always the only solution that can provide adequate relief for this type of hearing loss. A hearing test is essential to determine if this is the kind of hearing loss that you are experiencing.

What Is the Best Hearing Aid?
With all the new technology that continues to come out, there are many choices of design, color and style of hearing aids available. Let our Hearing Specialist talk with you about your lifestyle, work situations, and finances, in order to find the hearing aid that is best suited for you.

What are the types of hearing aids?
Behind the Ear (BTE) are suitable for every kind of hearing loss. The sounds pass through a clear plastic tube into an earmold, which we custom-make in our clinic to fit your ear, so that it looks and feels just right. BTE instruments are slim, and fit neatly behind the ear. They follow the curve of the ear so well that they are often difficult to see. There are a variety of colors to match your hair color and skin tone.

In the Ear (ITE) hearing aids are worn inside the ear. They are usually suitable for mild to severe hearing losses. They are custom-made to fit the ear exactly.

Completely in the Canal (CIC) are smaller in size than the ITE. This is ideal for those who are concerned about the look or appearance of wearing a hearing aid.

Receiver in the Ear (RITE) or Canal receiver technology (CRT) are smaller sized BTE ‘s and one of the greatest innovation in hearing aid design. All RITE hearing aids have their electronics, battery, and microphone inside a casing worn behind the ear (BTE). An ultra thin, sculpted wire carries the amplified sound to the speaker in the ear canal. Many people are choosing this type of hearing aid.

RITE hearing aids have some great benefits:

  • The key benefit of this unique design is that it does not fill the ear canal with plastic
  • A vented tip leaves a passageway in the canal for natural hearing to still access the eardrum.
  • This unique design produces a very natural sound quality as it blends a person’s residual natural hearing with enhanced sounds needed provided by the hearing instrument.
  • Its wonderful design makes it virtually unnoticeable.
  • RITE designs include both mini-BTE and standard BTE design.

Why two hearing aids ?
With only one hearing aid it is hard to determine where sound is coming from which at times can be dangerous. With two hearing aids you get the following benefits:

  • Localization – ability to determine where sound is coming from
  • Improved hearing in noisy environment
  • Improved sound quality
  • Requires less volume so listening is more comfortable and less tiring
